FEENEY DOMINANT IN ANOTHER RED BULL 1-2 AT ALBERT PARK

Broc Feeney has led teammate Will Brown across the line in the opening race of the MSS Security Melbourne Supersprint. Matt Payne completed the podium in the Penrite Racing Mustang, making it the youngest podium trio in Supercars history.

As the race began, pole sitter Feeney had to concede the lead to the fast starting Shell V-Power Mustand of Anton De Pasquale as the pair approached the opening corner. It was a short lived moment of glory for the DJR driver as Feeney regained the lead inside the opening lap of the race.

From there the #88 skipped away as Brown leapfrogged Chaz Mostert for third and moved ahead of  De Pasquale shortly after. Mostert became embroiled in a battle for fourth with former teammate Nick Percat, until contact between the pair saw Mostert drop to the tail of the Top 10, while Percat later received post-race penalty for his role in the incident.

Whilst the leaders remained largely unaltered throughout the latter stages of the race, things began to escalate further down the order. It was a case of swinging doors at Team 18 which saw Mark Winterbottom climb from 20th on the grid to narrowly miss out on a top 10 finish. Things were quite the opposite for his teammate David Reynolds. The Tradie backed Camaro driver had qualified immediately behind his teammate in 21st and made some progress to finish in 16th.

Jaxon Evans also had a brush of some sorts, which brought him into the pits for repairs. Some quick work by the BJR crew had Evans back in track and on the lead lap.

At the conclusion of the 18lap journey, it was Feeney from Brown and Payne. Mostert recovered to finish fourth, ahead of Waters, Percat, De Pasquale, Courtney, Hazelwood and Le Brocq.

“It’s been a pretty cool day. I find these days full of track activity really fun, even though they’re so busy,” Feeney told Red Bull Ampol Racing media.

“I haven’t been out of my race suit all day, we’ve just been driving which is fun. It’s been really solid from us from the beginning. Practice one was good, but then to top practice two and get a pole position was awesome. Another one-two for the team again, I’m pretty chuffed with that. I tried to get a good start in the race, and as soon as I took off I saw Anton right next to me, then we drove into turn one together, but I tried to pressure him into turn three and I snuck through. From there, I tried to manage the race as best as I could, and it was great that Will (Brown) could get into second and for us to run to the end. “
