RACE 29 RECAP
Anton De Pasquale started the 64-lap fuel race in P1, and teammate Davison just behind in P3. De Pasquale and Davison both started Race 29 on the Hard tyre compound. Whincup and van Gisbergen started Race 29 on the Super Soft tyre compound. Whincup was quick off the line and went into turn 1 in P1, De Pasquale in P2 and Davison slotted in behind van Gisbergen in P4.
In the opening laps, De Pasquale and Davison were jostling for positions with the other cars in the field who started on the Super Soft compound.
The Safety Car was deployed on lap 7 after Jones came to a stop at tun 8. De Pasquale and Davison both came in for their first of two compulsory pit stops during the Safety Car window. A double stack was forced, like all other cars in the field. De Pasquale and Davison were both serviced with four Hard tyres and fuel during their stops.
After the Safety Car restart on lap 9, De Pasquale was P3, and Davison was P13.
De Pasquale completed his second compulsory pit stop on lap 37. The crew serviced his Shell V-Power Racing Ford Mustang with four Super Soft tyres and fuel to finish. De Pasquale rejoined in front of Mostert. Davison stopped one lap later, lap 38 for four Super Soft tyres and enough fuel to finish.
With 50 laps completed, De Pasquale sits in P7 after passing Whincup and Davison sits in P13.
The rain started to fall with 8 laps remaining and proceeded to get heavier with 6 laps remaining, but not enough to force the hand of anyone to stop late for Wet tyres. With 2 laps remaining De Pasquale was able to pass Pye and Brown for P5 and Davison was able to pass Le Brocq and Winterbottom for P10. On the last lap at turn 7, De Pasquale was able to pass Mostert for P4.
De Pasquale finished Race 29 in P4 and teammate Davison finished in P9 after a penalty was applied to Percat.
DE PASQUALE QUOTE
“I made the Top Ten Shootout which was good, the car had good pace. Going into the race and starting from P1 for the 250km.
“There were quite a few different strategies and the early Safety Car meant for some hard racing and plenty of passing. Finishing 4th was a good result.”
DAVISON QUOTE
“Qualifying in P3 for the race was really good and in a good start for the race. The early Safety Car hampered our race. We had to double stack and lost ground because of that.
“We had pretty good competitiveness during the race but we were buried in the middle pack during the middle stint and on the Super Soft tyre. A tough day, we did all we could and got the maximum result we could with everything that was thrown at us.”
