SUPERCARS HAND SUPERUTES TO TEAMS AS V8 ENGINES ANNOUNCED

On the same day the Supercars announced that the category management is to be handed over to the teams for 2020, it was also revealed that the category set to move to V8 engines.

Craig Thompson, Team Boss at Western Sydney Motorsport and Toyota Hilux SuperUte Team Owner, was fully supportive of the new direction that the Super Utes category was about to embark upon.

“As an invested owner I’m excited that Supercars have given us full control over the series moving forward, Thompson exclaimed. “The owners group all have the same idea on what we want to achieve and what is relevant to good racing.We have a relevant chassis we just need to get a racing relevant power plant and ensure we manage it correctly to get the balance right to ensure we have a very unique exciting brand of racing for the Aussie racing fan.”

 “A huge horsepower input will see these big utes get tail happy, Thompson added. “People have commented about the aesthetics of the current ride heights as well as handling issues with the centre of gravity. All team owners agree that there needs to be a change and we will ensure that the Super Utes will have an exciting package for everyone to enjoy.”

STATEMENT FROM SUPERCARS: ECB SuperUtes Series

Supercars Australia has agreed to hand over the management rights of the ECB SuperUtes to a group made up of current SuperUtes team owners.

It has been determined that after two years of management, now is the time for the competitors to assume control of the category moving forward, similar to many other Australian Series.

As well as a change of management for 2020, SuperUtes plan to adopt a control V8 engine across the series.
The Confederation of Australian Motorsport (CAMS) has been informed of the decision and will work with the new entity to formulate a new CMA.

Supercars Chief Operating Officer Shane Howard said: “Supercars recognises the investment made by SuperUtes teams in establishing the Series. The teams are now able to determine their future independently.
“The competitors are best equipped to move the category forward. Supercars will assist in the transition to an independent entity, including supplying all technical data and commercial information and we look forward to having them continue to be part of support category program.”

This decision does not change the plans for the remaining rounds of the 2019 ECB SuperUtes Series.
Further details of the changes to category management and which rounds of the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship will make up their 2020 calendar will be released in the coming weeks.
