FIGHTING FINISH BRINGS PODIUM FOR TFH HIRE SERVICES RACING

TFH Hire Services Racing has taken out a hard fought podium in the opening Enduro at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park.

The #169 of Josh Thomas and Todd Hazelwood avoided the opening lap carnage and a subsequent restart to finish third behind the single driver entries of Tom Hayman and Josh Haynes.

Hazelwood started the race with the sister car of Des Collier and Elliott Barbour alongside. The pair ran in fourth and fifth through the opening turn as Zach Bates swept around the outside of pole sitter Haynes and into a short lived lead.

The blue and Silver Camaro went off track on cold tyres and rejoined alongside Hazelwood on the approach to turn 4. Haynes has also tangled with Brad Gartner through Turns 1 and 2 before taking the lead on the approach to Turn 3.

Jordan Cox went up the inside of Barbour, as they Hazelwood and Bates each tried to make progress and stay out of trouble.

It all proved a little too optimistic.

Gartner was tapped an spun, Hazelwood, Barbour, Cox and Hughes all managed to avoid the stricken Hi-Tec Oils Camaro, though those further back in the pack were left unsighted and with nowhere to go.

Nicholas Bates had a heavy contact, while Doman Ramsay did likewise and was lifted onto two wheels as the Hollinger Camaro with Chase Hoy at the wheel slid under the back of the #71 C&H Trucking machine.

As the dust settled five cars were eliminated from the race, with Gartner, Ramsay, Bates, Hoy and Coulter all but blocking the circuit at Turn 3.

The twenty lap enduro became a nine lap battle when the field returned to the track with Josh Haynes leading Jordan Cox and Hazelwood behind the Safety Car.

Haynes surrendered the lead when he made his Compulsory stop soon after, Hazelwood had moved ahead of Cox and assumed the lead before he also made his way to the pitlane.

The handover to Josh Haynes went smoothly and the #169 TFH Hire Services Racing Mustang led as Haynes and Hayman bore down upon him at speed.

With the advantage of warm tyres and the front straight to reach maximum speed, Haynes and Hayman were soon ahead.

Thomas then found himself under pressure from Tyler Cheney in the PRD Transport Camaro during the final laps of the race. Cheney managed to squeeze ahead, but Thomas was up to the challenge and took third place at the chequered flag by the narrowest of margins.

“It was awesome,” Josh Thomas told TA2 media.

“The car was definitely a lot different to the majority of the weekend we’ve had so far. It’s been pretty terrible for us, but obviously having Toddy go out first helped out, and I almost actually sold it on the first corner on the out lap, almost went in the gravel because I got excited, but managed to stick together and hold out young Tyler Cheney, who I also got to say he’s unbelievable.,16 and he was on my tail.”

“Thanks to Todd and thanks to the team, really looking forward to tomorrow.”
