A VERY POSITIVE SUPER3 WEEKEND FOR MADELINE STEWART

HALF PRICE PARTS Velocity Magazine Media Driver Madeline Stewart has had a very positive weekend at Queensland Raceway in the Supercars Super3 Series that included a top 10 finish for the young Kiwi.

Madeline showed no fear in racing against drivers with more experience than her, and on Sunday moved forward with some very decisive passing as yet comes to terms with the Brad Jones Racing Holden Commodore VE II Supercar, a far cry from the karting experience she has had.

“I finished the weekend feeling happy that we had continued to make progress along our learning curve. I was very happy to have another top ten finish in race 3 but I also felt that the weekend did not really deliver on the promise we showed going in. I had a really good test on Tuesday and backed that up with solid top ten performances in the practices and in qualifying. It was the first time we’d started in the top ten and I really hoped that we could continue with the some good racing near the front of the field.” Stewart told Velocity Magazine.

After a tough start in Race 1 where Madeline was unable to miss two spinning cars in front of her, the BJR team were able to rebuild the car from some pretty heavy damage.

“My start in race 1 was a bit slow causing me to lose a couple of places. I was around some of the Kumho Cup drivers who are very experienced and always get good starts. I managed to make some places back up until the two cars in front of me made contact and one spun in front of me. I had no where to go and made heavy contact in to the side of him. The car behind me also had no where to go and run up the back of me. The car was pretty badly damaged but luckily the Brad Jones Racing team carry lots of spares and they were able to rebuild the car before race 2 the next morning.”

“With the progressive grid system in Super3, I started race 2 in 15th. I made good progress but ran wide in turn 3 when I was in 12th causing me to to lose two places. The racing is very competitive so every mistake costs you. I finished 14th.”

Madeline’s best result for the weekend came in race 3.

“With my results from races 1 and 2 combined, I started race 3 from 16th. Race 3 is for more points that 1 and 2 so it’s always quite frantic. A combination of some solid passes and some mistakes in front of me allowed me to move forward for a 9th place finish. Our second top ten for the season.”

“Our next round is also the next Supercars round at The Bend in August. I’m really looking forward to learning another new and different track and feel very positive that we can continue to build on what we’ve learned so far and work towards some more good results.”

Velocity Magazine will of course be at the next round of the series at The Bend Motorsport Park where we will have more from Madeline.  Don’t forget to Subscribe to Velocity Magazine to read all about how Madeline is progressing.
