KYLE EVANS RUNS HIS PROJECT CAR AT QR TRACK ATTACK
Half Price Parts Velocity Magazine Media Driver Kyle Evans took to Queensland Raceway in the one day Track Attack Excel Cup on Saturday, in an Hyundai Excel he has been working on as his project car, albeit with some mixed results over the course of the day.
“I rebuilt this Hyundai specifically for Track Attack as my first project race car and have had limited laps at Qld Raceway before this race meet,’ Evans told Velocity Magazine.
The Queensland Excel Cup provides an exciting, low cost entry level Circuit Racing format which enables motoring enthusiasts from all walks of life to partake in competitive motor-racing and this weekend at QR they ran on the full length National Circuit. Track time on the one day event sees them have a 15 minute qualifying session in the morning and 3 races slated for the day.
“In qualifying I experienced mechanical issues with fuel surges and only completed three laps of the 15 minute session unfortunately I could not get one good lap.”
With 31 cars on track it was going to be a busy race for the youngster, and a big ask seen has he had both limited running in the morning, and limited actual track experience.
“Due to the fuel issues in qualifying I commenced race 1 back in 27th out of 31 competitors. I managed to bring it home in 13th place,” he said.
A very solid effort in the first race would see Kyle start the second race from just outside the top 10 on the Grid in the early afternoon race, but there was trouble ahead in this race.
“Race 2 I commenced on 12th grid, but unfortunately with a big off on turn one which damaged and bent the body of the car I was out for the remainder of the day.” said Kyle “It was awesome to race for the first time at Qld Raceway on Saturday in the Track Attack Excel Cup, hopefully the next one will go better.”
Next up for Track Attack Excel Cup is round five, which is part of the QRDC fourth round at Queensland Raceway on July 6 – 7.
Kyle’s next CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) event will be 28-30 June 2019 in the Queensland State Motor Racing Championship at Morgan Park Raceway.
