ANTON SCORES MAIDEN PODIUM AT PHILLIP ISLAND

Penrite Racing’s Anton De Pasquale has scored his maiden Supercars podium, taking an impressive third at Phillip Island today. Starting from the second row, the #99 got the jump on Chaz Mostert and quickly made his way to third.
 
David Reynolds, starting from an unusual 16^th, was quick off the line however couldn’t turn it into a position, and slid down three places. He managed to make it back though and hold his starting position over a long first stint.
 
Intermittent gear sensor issues troubled Anton early on, but luckily went away before he came in to pit at the end of lap 6, jumping both DJR Team Penske Falcons.
 
David was one of the last to pit on lap 10, and a good stop saw him take on cold, green tyres and re-join 13^th.
 
The second round of stops immediately followed, with the order settling with 12 laps to go.

At the front, Anton took second, though a tussle with Scott McLaughlin could not be denied, and he slipped back to third.
 
Pressure reached its peak within the team garage, with concerns over fuel starting to build. A sensor failure resulted in the car using more fuel, and engineers pondering whether the #99 would make it.
 
Further back, David rounded out the top ten. He had solid speed but wasn’t able to prove it, and under attack by Tim Slade on fresher tyres, settled for P11 with four laps remaining.
 
After 45 laps Anton’s position was made official and the young gun handed the team its second podium of 2019 in just his 41^strace start.
 
DAVID REYNOLDS – Started: 16^th, Finished: 11^th
“We qualified pretty poorly today, we didn’t make it out of Q1 which is our first time ever. I started 16^thand I got a terrible start, dropped three spots at the start, but managed to get them back pretty quickly. I was able to get up to P11 but otherwise I didn’t have a lot of pace in my car, I was good when I was by myself but didn’t go well following cars and unfortunately, we spent a lot of time behind cars today.”
 
ANTON DE PASQUALE – Started: 4^th, Finished: 3^rd
“We knew yesterday we had a good race car, so we just had to qualify well. Mirko and the engineers did a good job, we got a lot more out of the car today in qualifying. All I had to do from there was to get a good start, which I was able to do. From there we had really good pit stops, we had a great strategy; obviously we had a few dramas but overall it was great, the car was good for the whole race and everyone did a great job.
 
“During the first few laps we were struggling with a gear cut problem, that sorted itself out which was lucky because that could have been a big issue. Then the last 10 or so laps Mirko was telling me to save fuel but at the same time I had Davison catching me, so it made it hard but overall, I knew if we didn’t make any mistakes we were good for third.
 
“This place has always been really kind to me, I won my Formula Ford Championship here, my first Super 2 podium and win here, and now my first main game podium, so its quickly becoming my favourite track.”
