A Formula Ford weighs approximately 410/420kg, so their engines, which typically develop about 140/115 hp are capable of propelling them from 0-100km/hr in 3.9 seconds, reaching top speeds of nearly 220/235 km/hr.  The single seater open-wheeler Formula Ford gave Kyle the chance to drive a track he is familiar with during his test day.  The open-wheeler can be quite intimidating to some, due to the sensory experience and the openness to the elements.    Kyle extremely enjoyed the transition and the experience of moving up to Formula Ford offered him.

“Greg Fahey Motorsport had the pleasure of testing Kyle Evans in late October 2019.  Kyle was very competitive in Excel’s and wanted to ‘move up’ so to speak.  After meeting with him and his Father – Brett this test day was arranged.  Kyle handled himself very well on the day.  He executed everything that he was told to do with precision, his attentiveness was excellent, his attitude superb and he showed great maturity in his approach to the task at hand.  I am sure he will succeed in his first season of Formula Ford Racing in 2020.”

The Formula Ford car Kyle Evans will be competing in 2020 was imported from the UK – Van Dieman in 2004 by a Western Australia competitor.  It was overseen by ex F1 engineer Brett Lupton, consequently some upgrades and modifications different to the normal RF 04.

The car found its’ way to Qld, where it raced ok.  It wasn’t until Greg Fahey Motorsport bought the Formula Ford in late 2007.  It was raced well since then, continually placing in the Qld Championship.  In 2011 Matt Campbell (Current Factory Porsche Driver – Germany) joined the Greg Fahey Motorsport team running second in his first year and then winning the series in 2012 before moving onto the National Formula Ford Series and then onto Porsche cars.  The car is the current Qld Formula Ford Champion, again run by Greg Fahey Motorsport.

The Van Diemen was founded in 1973 by Rose Ambrose and Ralph Firman Snr.  The company’s name comes from the island of Tasmania, Australia, which was formerly known as Van Diemen’s Land and is where Ambrose was born and lived before moving to UK to co-found the Company.

Kyle has achieved some incredible goals since CAMS issued his licence after turning 14-year old in 2018 which allows him to race and compete in events throughout Qld. Kyle Evans gave it his all on the race track in his Black Hyundai Excel 34 from the moment he hit the track.  Kyle’s passion for Motorsport extended to working on and preparing his car for race meets with Pit Crew, Brett Evans.  Since commencing car racing in September 2018 Kyle has achieved a lap record 0-1600cc of 1:33.965 at Morgan Park Raceway on Sunday 23 September 2018.

Kyle was also announced the Quest 2018 Runner Up ‘Young Sporting Spirit Individual’ for the Redcliffe & Bayside Herald at a dinner at the Qld Cricketers Club on 17 October 2018.

On Sunday 14 April 2019 Young Queenslander Kyle Evans was selected as one of three winners in the Velocity Motorsport Magazine Media Driver 2019 along-side Madeline Stewart competing in the Super3 series, and Tyler Everingham competed in Super 2 Series.  This gave Kyle the opportunity to connect with the online fans and subscribers by featuring in articles showcasing his achievements during his race meets throughout the year.

Speed, consistency and a level head secured a podium position for Kyle Evans at CAMS Qld State Championship at Morgan Park Raceway on Sunday 30 June 2019 in his Black Hyundai Excel 34.  Kyle competed against 23 extremely competitive, experienced drivers and took on the challenge and was not intimated to be surrounded by drivers such as Cam Wilson, David Wood, Tyrone Gautier, Brock Giblin, Seiton Connor-Young and Broc Feeney.

We encourage you to follow Kyle Evans Motorsport on facebook and wish him all the best of luck in launching his journey into open-wheelers in Formula Ford in 2020 alongside Greg Fahey Motorsports and EzyStone Benchtops and look forward to following his career path throughout the year ahead.
